Travelling is a major experience and expense. So it is natural that when you travel, you want to have as much control over the entire process as possible. Most try to do the planning all by themselves, but end up feeling annoyed and frustrated. If you feel this way, then it could be because you’re making a mistake.

Here are some common mistakes you may be making when you plan your trip:

1. Running after deals Just to be clear- we aren’t against deals. We in fact encourage them to make travel more accessible to people! What we are against is not reading the fine print.

See the thing is, not every deal available is as great as it seems. Until and unless you are aware of every detail, avoid trying to get swayed by attractive, but shady deals. It could so happen that you don’t get the real value of your money! Another mistake made is buying certain discounted packages or deals that you may not even redeem in the future. Though it seems very useful, you need to assess your own budget and capacity to accommodate it.

2. Not exploring other options This is the opposite of the mistake mentioned above. The world of travel has evolved and so has the competition. Before it was easy to simply get in touch with a travel agent and get all the work done. But these days, so many different agencies are providing so many different offers and packages.

Travellers planning their own trips tend to stay fixated on one deal or agency that they’ve found. Trust us, there will always be a better option available that fits into your requirements. Being narrow-minded is the biggest mistake you can make!

3. Excessive planning It’s simple- it’s not possible to plan everything down to the T. Self-planners tend to have several plans ready, but don’t leave enough room for unexpected situations. For example, you could get late for a flight, the sight you wanted to see may be closed, restaurants aren’t open etc. It’s just like Naina from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani said:

Avoid wasting money on trying to cram everything into your schedule. It seems tempting to set a strict itinerary, but that can become a problem later on! Don’t make the mistake of leaving spontaneity out!

4. Not being aware of events and weather conditions Being up to date about what the atmosphere in the destination you want to visit is crucial. Not knowing what festivals or events may take place on your journey there could mess up your entire trip. Not just that, but you could also find yourself in an unnecessary pickle!

Weather conditions play a huge role in how you pack for the trip. Imagine having only summer clothes for a chilly place! Looking at the weather conditions and patterns, like the tornado or cyclone seasons before booking your trip. Not knowing the bare minimum of the place you’re going to visit is a big no-no!

5. Being inflexible Probably one of the biggest mistakes made is not having flexibility. Dates agar upar neeche thoda change ho jayega toh it shouldn’t be a problem. But what happens is that excitement mein aake, the flights get booked too quickly, and you miss out on better possible deals.

You have to be constantly aware of the various rates and deals available. Most don’t have the patience to do so, thus making this mistake!

Do you find yourself making these mistakes?

It’s okay though; we travel planners are here to help! We have the expertise, the experience and the skill to create the perfect itinerary for you. Travel planners, like us, reduce your risk of making these mistakes to zero!
