My Trip to Sariska, Rajasthan

When I look back at the trips I have taken over the years, my road trip to Sariska definitely stands out. This two-day trip taught me a lot about myself, my friends and just the world in general.

Here’s how:

It all started with a random 3 A.M. text to a friend saying… “Oye ghumne chale weekend par?”

See, I’m the type of friend who will constantly message my friends to go on a trip with me. At this point, they are used to me asking this question out of the blue. So honestly? I wasn’t expecting an answer.

Until a miracle happened!

She called me the next day and said, “Let’s go!”

Without any planning or booking, we packed our bags and headed towards Rajasthan at around 4-5 A.M.Other than the two of us, we had asked another one saap (Snake) in our lives :P (I can't say her name but she knows) if she would like to join (she couldn’t for certain reasons). The two of us just needed some one-on-one time with one another, to reconnect. I was really happy that we were going on a trip after a long time.

And lo! The journey began!

We both only had the weekend to relax because of office syapa; so we decided to go somewhere nearby at a good resort & chill. That’s how we ended up in Sariska, Rajasthan.

Day 1:

The drive from Delhi to Sariska took only 3 hours. It was nothing but us and the road as we drove and drove and drove to our destination. But there were some concerns we had, like where we would stay during our trip.

Because this was a sudden trip, we luckily found a great resort for a great price. It was a small resort with an outstanding view (check out our Instagram feed for pics)! All you need is a good book, a cup of coffee & good company. In my case, it's cold coffee, good music & good company ;P

Truly a wonderful place to relax.

Astroport-

After we settled down at the resort, we decided to go to Astroport for stargazing. There we got an amazing view of the moon & learned more about the stars and space.

That session left us with a lot of thoughts. It made us realise how vast the world actually is; how small we are. There are so many different perspectives out there, each of them having individual meaning. It was overwhelming; an experience we wouldn’t have gotten without this trip.

Amidst all that thinking though, we realised we were super hungry. We quickly went back to our resort and shovelled food into our mouths like mad people!

With filled stomachs and our minds blown, we changed our clothes and relaxed next to a personal bonfire. This is just a few of the perks of being two girls travelling- lake, bonfire, and good music. Aur kya chahiye zindagi mein?

The combination of these three is very dangerous. They make you talk your heart out. That's what happened with us - we spoke & spoke & spoke till morning. We had to force each other to sleep.

Day 2:

The next day, we were super excited and thought, "let's explore the city as well!" We asked the people at the resort what sights were there to see and things to do. They told us about the temple in the Sariska Tiger Reserve and we decided to check it out.

Neelkanth Mahadev temple -

We had trouble finding the temple at first. There were no clear directions that we could follow. So we asked a young boy for directions and he ultimately became our tour guide!

The temple was very old & peaceful, No crowd, lots of peacocks, and other birds. It was totally soothing. The best part was that all the broken pieces of the art/ sculptures were kept with proper care. We loved the place & spent some time doing a fun photoshoot.

It just so happened that the boy’s aka our tour guide’s village was nearby. We stayed there and played games like cricket with the local kids. At first, they were feeling so shy about playing with two girls that we literally had to force them to play with us & convinced them that we wouldn't complain about them to their parents. We left early as we had to head to our next stop: CHAND BAORI.

CHAND BAORI-

But, as we went to Chand Baori, disaster struck.

Rather, we did something stupid. Something which we should not have done.

What, you wonder?

Imagine this- two girls, out on a dusty, beaten up road, driving through a deserted route through a village. The locals had recommended that we take this scary route as it would get us there faster. There was virtually no one on the road.

It. Was. Terrifying.

We were really scared. We thought we would save time by taking this road but ended up getting the scariest time of our lives! A road trip on a sunsaan raasta is definitely not something I recommend, even if it is a short cut! Thankfully, it was peak day, so we did not face any issue. But jo bhi ho; thoda thrilling toh tha :P

After that exhilarating experience, we finally reached Chand Baori. This stepwell is one of the largest in the world and also the most beautiful one. It is over a thousand years old, located in the Abhaneri village of Rajasthan. It isn't easy to find though! Chand Baori is one of India's hidden gems, one you definitely don't want to miss! (We all have seen this landmark in a famous movie... cmon, guess it! :P)

We were awestruck by its beauty and presence. It felt as if we had found a secret place, a mesmerizing secret in this large world.

After relaxing for a bit at Chand Baori, we check out the local area. Here we had tons for desi street food before heading back home. On the way back, we went through Jaipur, where we stopped at a restaurant.

Here we had dinner and back to Delhi, it was!

In between, we shared a lot of stories, a lot of madness; another check to our friendship.

I will always miss these kinds of random trips. Thanks to my mad friends who believe in me :P
